CARING FOR YOUR GUNN & MOORE BAT
This bat has been made from fine quality specially seasoned English willow by Gunn & Moore craftsmen using skills and techniques perfected over more than a century of creating the world's finest bats. To maintain this bat in peak condition we recommend you to follow this simple advice.

GM NOW! AND GRANED FINISH
Pre-knocked in with antiscuff cover applied to face and edges to increase blade durability. These bats need "playing in". Exposed willow will require light oiling if the willow becomes very dry.
TOTEK
A specially shaped resilient shield fitted to the toe of the bat, which reduces toe damage and feathering that is often caused by the tapping at the crease. Also acts as a further barrier to damp.

GM DRIGUARD

Most Gunn & Moore bats are treated with GM DriGuard applied to the toe of the bat to reduce water absorption. This helps prevent toe swelling making the toe less susceptible to moisture induced damaged. DriGuard will repel oil as well as moisture and oil applied to this area should just be wiped off. 303 bats no oiling is required. However, during play the white PU coating will wear from the toe and any exposed willow should be lightly oiled as described below.
PREPARE YOUR BAT CAREFULLY 'PLAYING-IN'

GM NOW! bats should first be used to hit short catches and/or "throw-downs" with an old, good quality cricket ball. It is advisable to initially avoid use against a new ball in either nets or a match.
OILING NATURAL (UNTREATED) FINISH BAS

Before use apply a light coat of raw linseed oil (bat oil) to the face, back, edges and toe with fingers and palm of the hand. Avoid oiling the splice area. 3 or 4 further light coats should be applied to the face, edges and toe at about weakly intervals. Clean the bat using fine fibre glass paper before each application. Repeat occasionally if the willow becomes very dry. After oiling lay the bat flat for a few hours.

'KNOCKING IN' (UNTREATED BATS)
The face of the bat has been expertly pressed to provide an optimum resilient playing surface. The face, especially the front edges, will be further improved and its useful life prolonged by careful 'knocking-in' with an old leather cricket ball or a specially designed Gunn & Moore bat mallet. Not necessary for bats with GM NOW! finish
DON'TS:
Don't - expose to extremes of temperature AVOID prolonged spells in Car Boots/Trunks /Interiors
Don't - over-oil. It is more dangerous to over-oil than to under-oil. Over oiling ad weight, spoils driving power and may cause rot.
Don't - ever, ever stans the bat in oil.
Don't - allow the bat to become damp.
Don't - misuse or treat carelessly off the pitch for example at nets, or in changing rooms.
Don't - use cheap hard balls. These will damage the bat.
Don't - continue to play with a damaged bat. This will aggravate the damage to a point where the bat may be beyond repair.
Don't remove GM NOW! cover as this can damage the blade.
DO'S:
Do - prepare the bat carefully
Do - store the bat in off-season in a cool dry atmosphere away from excessive heat or damp.
Do - inspect the bat regularly for damage in play and repair promply.
Do - lightly re-oil the bat if it shows signs of drying out.
REPAIRS AND SERVICE:
In normal use superficial face and edge marks along with slight surface cracking will occur. This is to be expected, does not detract from the performance of the bat and may be ignored. Other damage, such as splitting of the toe as a result of hitting a yorker, or due to water ingress, or service crease tapping, or damage caused by a mis-timed shot, which happens to even the best player, can more often than not be repaired bat will continue to give excellent service. A refurbishment service for you GM bat is available which will help extend its life.
